John found his way home to his beloved wife, Jean, and his children, Buz, Marylea and Eddie on September 17, 2009. John will always be remembered as a humanitarian. His work ethic, kind heart and courteous ways with everyone crossing his path taught his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren life-long lessons. Born December 22, 1921, John was raised in Barberton, Ohio. He graduated from Barberton High School and attended Akron University. John had a strong faith and taught through his examples. As a member of St. Augustine Parish, John served as a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Since 1951, John has been a resident in Wadsworth and active in his church, Sacred Heart, serving his holy hour each week. In the community, John helped cook for Meals on Wheels and was a board member of Sterling Oaks Estates. John retired as the manager of Advertising Administration from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 41 years of devoted service. John’s favorite passions revolved around his family and friends. He organized dinner parties at his home, family reunions, and restaurant and golf outings. John was a life-long learner and enjoyed educating himself from all genres of literature. An avid golfer, John loved traveling to golf resorts and to historic sites. He enjoyed card games, the daily crossword puzzle and a good political debate. He was preceded in death by his parents Rosemarie and William Schick, brother, Tom, his sister, Rose Marie Ocepek, and leaves his sister, Mary Elizabeth Petty (Bernard) of Arizona. His children celebrating his life are: Suzanne Murphy (Michael), Gail Williams (Steve), Beverly Schumann (Robert), Walter Schick, Barbara Scheid (Brian), James Schick (Tamera), daughters-in-law Katie Schick (Buz) and Bev Stecz Schick, son-in-law John Stitzel (Marylea), 21 grandchildren and 17 great grand-children. Family will receive friends on Monday, September 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Rosary 8:00 to 8:30 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street, Wadsworth, OH (330) 334-1501. A celebration of John’s life with the Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday, September 22 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 260 Broad Street, Wadsworth, OH.
