Virginia Mae Hanic

BARBERTON -- Virginia Mae Hanic, 78, passed away December 16, 2009 at Summa Barberton Hospital.  Virginia was born in Barberton where she was a life resident and worked at the Diamond Match Co. She retired from the Sky Park Airport after 35 years as a Flight Instructor where she was a pioneer in women's aviation. She was a member of the former S.S. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and was active in the choir, St. Anne's Society and other activities at S.S. Cyril & Methodius School. Virginia especially enjoyed giving gifts at Christmas time and her yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach with her family. She also had a special spot in her heart for her dogs.  Preceded in death by her son, Michael and parents, Joseph and Matilda Brindo, survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Edward J.; daughter, Trish (Bill) Jackson of Wadsworth; son, Ed (Donna) of Canal Fulton; grandchildren, Amanda and Chris Simon, Elise (Tony) Naso and Ed Jr. and Ben Hanic; and sister, Joan (Jim) Whitaker.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 21, 2009, 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton, Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.
