Raymond "Cowboy Ray" Schmeltzer

Raymond Schmeltzer, 63, formerly of Carrollton, more recently of Akron, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009.  Born October 15, 1945 in Akron to the late Carl and Francis Schmeltzer, Mr. Schmeltzer was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired truck driver for British Petroleum. He loved flea markets, hunting, and fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. He was very generous and enjoyed watching others enjoy life.  Preceded in death by his son, Robert Allen Schmeltzer and sister, Jociel Drexler, Raymond is survived by son, Mike (Leslie) Schmeltzer of Akron and daughter, Melissa (Patrick) Weekley of Pompano Beach, Fla. There are two grandchildren, Jenna and Roxanne; brother, Carl (Pat) Schmeltzer of Copley; sisters, Carol Runk of Barberton, and Betty (Tim) McEwen of Wadsworth; and several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth. Inurnment 2 p.m. Friday with Military Honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd. #260, Independence, OH 44131, or to VNS Hospice, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333-6118.
