James F. Beck

BARBERTON -- James F. Beck, 90, passed away December 27, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Copley.  Jim was born in Barberton where he was a life resident and retired from the Babcock and Wilcox Co. after 41 years of service. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Wadsworth VFW Post 1089. Jim was a proud Army Air Corp. Veteran having served during World War II where he was discharged as a Captain flying B-17 bombers with the 15th Air Force in Foggia, Italy and was awarded with the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.  Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eleanor; children, Pamela (Andrew) Brann, Barbara J. Carlson, Timothy Beck, James T. (Vicky) Beck, Jeffrey (Rachael) Beck and Patricia (Rich) Vartenuk; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Peter Beck and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009, 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling Hours Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VNS Hospice or St. Augustine Church.
