BARBERTON -- Helen Louise Swain, 84, passed away October 26, 2009. Helen was born in Barberton where she was a life resident and a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Akron. She began her career at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. during World War II and later retired from Marshall's Dept. Store after 20 years of service. Helen was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Norton where she belonged to the Altar Guild. She very much enjoyed and was devoted to her catholic faith. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents and her husband's parents, she is survived by her daughters, Valanne Carpenter, Debanne Donelson, Marcene Tesmer and Jolene Maurer; sons-in-law, Ernie Carpenter, Dexter Donelson, Tracy Tesmer and Kurt Maurer; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald and George Schmalz; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Swain. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009, 10 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Fr. James Maloney celebrant. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth. Calling hours Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. Rosary Service Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
