Charles J. "Chuck" Bryan, age 87, of Massillon, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Rose Lane Health Center. Chuck was one of eleven children born in Massillon on Tuesday, February 7, 1922 son of the late Thomas and Anna Bryan. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on a dry-dock in Australia from 1942-1945. He met and married his wife Margaret T. (Giovanelli) Bryan in Alliance in May 1943. They lived in San Francisco while Chuck was stationed there. He was discharged in October 1945 and they moved to Massillon. He worked for Prudential Life Insurance for ten years and Franklin Insurance Company for five years until he established his own office as a broker. Chuck was a 75-year member of K of C. Council # 554 3rd degree and a member of the American Legion, VFW, American Lebanese Club of Stark County, Massillon Tiger Sideliners and Touchdown Club. He was a past board member for Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers and Sisters, Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board, Fair Housing and Western Stark County Red Cross. He is survived by wife of 66 years, Margaret T. (Giovanelli) Bryan of Massillon, two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sherma Bryan of Spring Valley, Ohio, Tim and Kate Bryan of Massillon; six grandchildren Holly (Shaun) Huth, Amy (Ryan) Stover, Susan (Phillip) Stephens, Angela Bryan, Daniel Bryan, Michael Bryan, eight great-grandchildren Maia Jaschok, Caleb, Joshua, Hannah Stover, and Macy and Tate Stephens, Bret and Elise Huth, eight sisters, Millie Diffenbaugh, Betty Wright, Esther Ridlon, Lucille Capps, Shirley Moreno, Beverly "Pepper" Golesh, Judy Scarvie, Patty Ferrand; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Francoise Bryan all of California. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, "Bobbie" Barbara Bryan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 9:30 AM with Rev. Edward Gretchko celebrating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Alliance, Ohio with Military Honors. Friends may call at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
