Bernice Volk

Bernice Volk, age 92 was taken to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 7, 2010 where she resided at the Laurels of Massillon, after living at the Amherst Apts.  Bernice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton and the Massillon Seniors. In past years, she enjoyed dancing at the Mayfield Center. She loved working in her flower garden and making new recipes and did seasonal work at the old Ley Bros. Turkey Farm. People remember her poems and humor.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Edith Brown, originally of Tuscarawas County; her husband, Richard Volk and son-in-law, Robert Shannonboth in 1992; her sister, Marge Butzer in 2003.  She is survived by her daughter, Rita Shannon (Tom Ebey) of Massillon; son, Ron Volk (Sherry Arnold) of Manchester; granddaughters, Cindy (Tom) Pantea of Manchester, Kelly Shannon of Canton, Emily Volk of Tennessee; great Granddaughters, Erika and Jamie Pantea; sisters, Irene (Jake) Garman of Brennfield Nursing Home, Orrville, Jeanetta (Jack) Roach of Canal Fulton; numerous nieces and nephews and a lot of nice friends.  The family would like to thank each and everyone of the care givers at the Laurels and St. John Church family and Pastor Michelle Nickodemus for the many visits, flowers, cookies and the beautiful prayer shawl made with the loving hands from the church ladies that kept mother cozy and warm this cold winter and filled with prayers and peace.  Funeral Service FRIDAY, 11 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 East Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Pastor Michelle Nickodemus officiating and where friends may call THURSDAY 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to time of service. Burial Canal Fulton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Lutheran, 336 West Market, Canal Fulton, Oh 444614 in her name.
